The Los Angeles Rams' minicamp next week was mandatory in name only, with head coach Sean McVay deciding he already has seen enough from one of the Super Bowl favorites and canceled the two days of workouts next week.
While the Rams no longer will have to be on the field Monday and Tuesday at their facility in Woodland Hills, Calif., the presence of the players will still be required Monday to work on familiarity with the playbook.
Los Angeles made a pair of major additions to its defense in the offseason, acquiring defensive end Myles Garrett in a trade with the Cleveland Browns, while also signing free agent Trent McDuffie, an All-Pro with the Kansas City Chiefs, to the largest contract ever for a cornerback.
The Rams will not be required to assemble on the field again until next month for training camp at Loyola Marymount in Westchester.
Los Angeles is not the only team to adjust its mandatory minicamp schedule. The San Francisco 49ers also canceled minicamp, while the Arizona Cardinals reduced theirs from three days to one.
