Coach:Sean McDermott
Quarterback:Josh Allen
2024 record:13-4, first in AFC East
Most recent regular season matchup:Thursday, Nov. 25, 2021 - Bills 31, Saints 6
Bills-Saints series record:Saints lead 7-5
The Bills jumped out to a 3-2 start in the 2024 campaign before ripping off seven straight wins to advance their record to 10-2. They'd finish the season 13-4 good for first in the AFC East and second to only the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC. The Bills opened the playoffs with a 31-7 victory over the Denver Broncos in the Wild Card round before taking a close 27-25 victory over the Baltimore Ravens in a Divisional game. In the conference championship they took on the Kansas City Chiefs. In another close contest, the Chiefs eliminated the Bills from the playoffs for the fourth time in five years with a 32-29 victory in Arrowhead Stadium.
The Bills sought to add another pass rusher after releasing Von Miller and former Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa fit the bill. Bosa is a five-time Pro Bowler with 72.0 career sacks and finished 2024 with 22 tackles and 5.0 sacks in 14 games for the Chargers.
"I'm locked in this year,"Bosa said. "I just want to do everything I possibly can to stay healthy and to contribute to this team and be a part of winning. I'm running out of time here. It's going fast. I'm in year 10 already coming up, and I just don't have that many moments left. So I have to grasp them while I can. And I think all that's on my mind is going to be football this year and helping the team."
The Bills looked to improve the 11th-ranked scoring defense in the draft adding six defensive players in their nine-person draft class including their first five selections. The Bills added three players to their secondary including their first round pick Maxwell Hairston out of Kentucky and three players to their defensive line including defensive tackle T.J. Sanders, a second-round pick out of South Carolina.
"I thought it was stronger, more depth on the defensive side of this draft,"Bills General Manager Brandon Beane said. "We talked about that even before the draft, the D-line, and there were some in the secondary. So, it truly sometimes is where it is when you're drafting or you're like, 'Man, I really like this guy. He can help us. Let's go up and get him.' We did that a couple times."
One success the Bill will hope to carry on is their league-leading turnover differential from the 2024 campaign of +24. The Bills took the ball away the second most times of any NFL team, securing 16 interceptions and 16 fumbles while only turning the ball over eight times. The eight total giveaways tied the single season NFL record with the 2019 Saints since at least 1933.
