LAS VEGAS, Nevada: This week, Las Vegas authorities said that police have arrested eight teenagers who are accused of beating a high school student to death, but two suspects are still at large.
The incident happened after a dispute over a pair of headphones that escalated into a brutal assault, authorities added.
At a press conference on November 14, Las Vegas law enforcement officials said that some ten people could be seen attacking Jonathan Lewis, 17, in a widely circulated video.
The incident, which took place on November 1, left Lewis with "non-survivable head trauma," leading to the arrest of eight teenagers ranging from 13 to 17 years, who will face murder charges, they added.
Authorities said that the fight over a pair of wireless headphones and possibly a vape pen stolen from Lewis or his friends happened in a back alley near Rancho High School.
Two people in the video have yet to be positively identified, they added.
Andrew Walsh, undersheriff at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, said, "If you, or your child, or somebody you know has seen that video and recognizes anybody that may have been a participant in this senseless crime, you need to get a hold of us."
Las Vegas police homicide Lieutenant Jason Johansson urged the public to share any additional videos of the incident that might be circulating online. "There is a high likelihood that there is additional video out there that we do not have," he said.
