PARIS, France: According to a report by BFM TV, Britain's King Charles is considering a visit to France in September, following the cancellation of a planned state visit in March due to violent protests surrounding reforms to the French pension system.
King Charles had initially scheduled a three-day visit to France in late March, which would have marked his first state visit since assuming the role of British monarch after the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth, in September.
However, the visit was called off amidst social unrest sparked by President Emmanuel Macron's pension law reforms, leading to widespread street violence across the country.
In lieu of the cancelled visit, King Charles embarked on his first overseas trip as king, visiting Germany instead.
Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace had not issued a comment on the matter, while there was no immediate response from President Macron's office regarding a request for comment.
The original agenda for the March visit included a state banquet at the historic royal palace in Versailles and a visit to the renowned Bordeaux wine-growing region. Additionally, King Charles was scheduled to lay a wreath alongside Macron at the Arc de Triomphe.
During the visit, King Charles was also slated to address senators and members of the National Assembly, as part of a tour aimed at celebrating Britain's connections with key European nations following its decision to leave the European Union in 2016.
In March, both Buckingham Palace and President Macron expressed their anticipation for rescheduling the postponed trip, once new dates could be arranged.
